Tablets and eReaders are frequently grouped into the same category which may seem harmless, but is ultimately like comparing the original Nintendo gaming system to the Wii. Numerous companies that specialize in eReaders actually market their products as tablets which for the general consumer can be a little confusing. While all tablets can perform the same functions as an eReader, an eReader definitely falls short in performance.

The eReader, whether it be a Nook, Kindle, or Kobu, can perform only basic functions. The screen itself was designed to reduce strain on the eyes and to reduce overall glare. The focus of these devices was to allow people the ability to read the books they want on the go, and to give them the ability to download them no matter where they are.

Only recently have many of these eReaders begun to incorporate web browsers, and many of them are in their beta phase. They just don’t function on the same speed as a tablet. Simply put, you only buy an eReader to read books, magazines, or other print items.

Tablets, on the other hand, are practically large smart phones without the ability to make calls or mini laptops without keyboards. They have advanced IT Management teams running the apps that are created for them, superior Wi-Fi and browsing capabilities, and a large variety of functions that can help a person to anything from read the morning paper to create their monthly budget.

Recently, I heard that Amazon intended to sell 5 million tablets in their next quarter. I was stunned, but mainly because I didn’t even realize that they had a tablet available. After realizing that they were talking about the Kindle, I felt a little mislead. The Kindle isn’t a tablet.

A tablet is a highly functional mobile device, such as the iPad 2 or Galaxy 10.1. With a tablet, you can play games, scour the web, and play around on your Facebook profile. An eReader is simply that – an electronic device used for reading. It’s a great device to have for travel as no one wants to tote around heavy books in their carry-on, but otherwise – that’s all an eReader offers: convenience.

So before you invest in a Kindle or a Nook, consider all that you will be missing out on if you invest your money in one of these devices. Why spend $200 on a device that only provides access to printed items, when you could spend a little more on a tablet that allows you the same type of access while also providing you with several other features – including basics like internet browsing.

I was in need of a new TV for the family room this week, and was astounded by the sheer quantity of different LED HDTV’s on the market. But, how’s a Webchicklet to decide on which LED HDTV is the right one at the right price? I was overwhelmed and confused by the vast array of brands, screen sizes, technology (Plasma, LCD, Projection, CRT, or LED), and resolutions.

So I did what I always do, research, research, and more research. But the first thing I decided was I want a good quality, but not super expensive, LED HDTV. As usual, I surfed over to my favorite source for research and buying any household item, Amazon.com to learn more about LED HDTV’s and their multitude of features. And of course, always looking to get the lowest price, Amazon is the place to be. Add in the free (and fast) shipping, and you get to wondering how the Best Buys’s of the world stay in business!

First off, I chose an LED HDTV over LCD for the sole vanity of wanting a super thin TV I could mount on my wall. That’s the big benefit of the LED technology over LCD and Plasma. Of course that comes at a price. So if budget is your concern, you might as well go with LCD, as they are much cheaper, and there isn’t really much difference in picture quality between the two.

Second, I wanted something in the upper 40 inches in size. Thirdly, I wanted 1080 resolution. So with that in mind I narrowed it down to the top 3 LED HDTV bestsellers on Amazon in my size range. Here they are:

1. VIZIO XVT473SV 47-inch Class Full Array TruLED LCD HDTV 240 Hz SPS with VIZIO Internet Apps

This one is the number one selling LED HDTV in my size range, but I just wasn’t comfortable with the brand name, though the price is certainly very tempting. It is definitely worth looking at if you are on a limited budget. It apparently has a very clear picture and super rich colors and amazing life like motion. But at the end of the day, I wanted a more established brand name. Yes I am a brand snob.

2. Sony BRAVIA KDL46EX720 46-Inch 1080p 3D LED HDTV, Black

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! I love all things Sony (except their recent credit card data breach) and this TV looked too good to pass up. The price was great, the size was close enough for what I was looking for, and the shipping was a SUPER fast 3 days to my door. The Motionflow technology gives this tv an amazingly crisp and beautiful picture. The internet capability and apps keep the kids entertained, and even with the super thin chassis the sound is incredible. And again, the price is too good to pass up for my Sony fix.

3. Samsung UN46D6400 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz 3D LED HDTV (Black)

I was tempted to give Samsung a try, as the reviews are good, but the price brought me back to my senses and I went with the Sony 3D LED HDTV. It does have an amazingly slim profile and is a hot looking tv. It has all the same great features, but I’m a SONY girl.

No matter what kind of LED HDTV you’re looking for, if you’re overwhelmed by all the choices at your local Best Buys, hop into your pajamas, grab a cup of coffee and your laptop, and surf on over to Amazon to get the best LED HDTV for you, at the best price possible.

As a gadget loving freak, I was glued to Engadget.com’s play by play of all the big unveilings throughout the week. There were ALOT of cool gadgets presented at the CES, but the one that received the most fanfare and google trends leader all weekend was the Motorola XOOM Android Tablet, supposed to be launched in the first quarter of 2011. At the end of the CES 2011 show Saturday, CNET’s editors chose the Motorola XOOM as the best gadget in show.

Their have been a boatload of Android tablets come to market before the Motorola XOOM, so what’s the big fuss? Well, for starts, it has a dual core processor and will run Android 3.0 (firsts for both). The Android 3.0 , also known as Honeycomb, was built by Google specifically for tablets, to make the most of the graphics and processor speed. It would appear from first glance this could finally be an excellent alternative to the iPad. Will it overtake the iPad? That remains to be seen, but I’d guess no. But I think ultimately Android based tablets as a whole will sell more units than iPads, just as Android based phones are now outselling the iPhone.

One thing is abundantly clear. I will own one of these bad boys’ as soon as they become available. Motorola is already listing accessories for the XOOM, including a wireless keyboard, a docking station, and a slick looking Motorola XOOM case, that is attractive and functional. So what say you? Will you be standing in line to grab one of the first Motorola XOOM’s? Will there even be a line at Verizon stores when this thing launches?

So, where are the best places to get a new Droid Pro case? There are several excellent options:

Amazon.com: Great selection of Droid Pro cases, skins, and screen protectors, along with great customer service, fast shipping, and an easy returns policy.

Wireless Emporium: Decent Droid Pro case selection, free and fast shipping on all products

If you’re a Droid X fanatic like me, and as clumsy as me, then Droid X cases are not just an optional accessories, they are required equipment upgrades. First off, I LOVE my Motorola Droid X, like I’ve loved no other phone before. The HTC Droid Incredible came a close second, and in fact I still own it. But that big beautiful Droid X screen was calling my name from day one, and with some sadness I put my Droid Incredible into early retirement. That big beautiful Droid X needs a big beautiful Droid X case to protect it though.

I tend to drop my phones at least a couple times a day, on asphalt, wood, cement, and any other hard surface I can find. So a soft rubber case is just the fix for my needs, as it makes it easier to grip my droid x, and if(when) it tumbles to the ground and bounces down the cement stairs, it is protected by my soft rubber case, with the battery cover intact!

So after much research I found the ultimate case for my Droid X. While doing my research and trial and error, I got to thinking: What’s kind of Droid X cases are everyone else buying? So I did some digging, and that resulted in the Webchicklet Top 3 bestselling Droid X cases. These top 3 outsell all of the other top 10 combined.

Here they are:

1. Amzer Luxe Argyle Skin Case for Motorola Droid X MB810 – Smoke grey

What’s not to like with this fashionable and durable Amzer Droid X case? Everything remains accessible through the case with the cutouts, great grip and traction on surfaces

2. Amzer Rubberized Snap On Case for Motorola Droid X MB810 – Black

This rubber Droid X case snaps on with a perfect fit, with a shiny new look for your X. You can still charge with the case on, while protecting your Droid X with a durable, strong, attrative case.

3. Seidio Innocase Surface Case for Motorola DROID (Black)

This is REALLY nice case, but for a little more money. It’s got a 1 mm thin wall case making it light weight and unobtrusive, while still being super strong and stylish.

If you have upgraded to an extended Droid X battery, then be sure to check that these cases will fit, if indeed the new battery is bigger than the original. No matter what which one of these Droid X cases you chose to buy, your phone will thank you.

Update: I’m excited to see that the Droid Pro is coming out soon, which I will definitely be buying on launch day, so check back in November or December and I’ll review the top 3 bestselling Droid Pro Case on the market at that time.

In the technology world, there is a proverb which says – the gadget which makes the most hype, sells less, which however, is being proved false by Apple alone. Apple is playing the role of new technology navigator among its siblings for a couple of years, with the release of mind blowing iterations every year. After the most hyped iPad, which is releasing this April, the next big release by Apple is iPhone 4g which has already started to draw attention among tech lovers. Though Apple made it a strict closed door policy to announce which improvements they are making to the iPhone 3GS, there are some strong rumors which are likely to come into reality.

The highest possible improvement they are making is to introduce a 5 MP HD camera in the front, making the iPhone a complete iPhone HD package. Also, Apple has reached the end of their contact with AT & T this year, opening the possibility of Verzion to be offering the iPhone, making it a CDMA Enabled Verizon iPhone, good news among iPhone users around the globe who are using CDMA service instead of GSM. However, we have to wait a couple of months to see the iPhone 4G magic.

Webchicklets of the world, rejoice! Gone are the days of boring black laptop bags, totes, and sleeves! There is finally a growing focus on funky and chic laptop bags for the stylish geek! Whether you are looking for a more sophisticated chic laptop bag to match your professional wardrobe style, or a funky laptop bag to match your funky, eclectic style, your options are much better than they were even five years ago. A quick google search and you will see just how many funky laptop bags are out there.

One of the best sources of funky, chic, or classic styled laptop bags is careerbags.com. CareerBags.com is the first online retail store created by the working woman for the working woman refusing to settle for anything less than fabulous business cases, laptop bags, handbags, and travel accessories. They state that their mission is to reach all women who dare to step out of the norm and prove that they not only have a place in the corporate world but can also look amazing on their way to the top.

Careerbag.com is my personal favorite site, as they feature fast and free shipping and easy returns, in case the bag is not as it appeared online! Not that that is a concern as they offer plenty of pictures and stats on each laptop bag. Careerbags offers a ton of different styles to match your mood, ranging from bohemian/eclectic, casual and sporty, chic and sophisticated, classic/conservative, and funky and cool. Here’s a sampling of my favorite laptop bags and their most popular best sellers.

Veronica London Monogram Laptop Tote

The Veronica London laptop bag ha pebble grain leather trim and nickel hardware. It has several interior pockets for secure and easy access storage for your PDA, Business cards, pen/pencil holders, cell phone, glasses. It also has a removable protective case with leather details to protect your valuable laptop even more.

More of the same funky chic laptop baggage in the same 7 colors of the Winnetka above, but with wheels! Now you can whisk your way through the longest airport gates with a light load and no chiropractor visits!

This rolling laptop bag from McKlein fits laptops up to 15.4 inches, and has a secure lock on the front flap. It also has a shoulder strap should you find yourself on an uneven surface. And for the ultimate in flexibility, you can remove the wheel and handle system giving you even more travel options!

The Barnes and Noble Nook appeals to my sense of style, and to my pocket book. Here’s some quick features of the Nook:

E- Ink Display is easy on the eyes as it is more like a traditional print book, with no glare or backlighting, plus adjustable text size!

you can download books super fast with the AT&T 3G network, or via wifi

The Barnes and Noble Nook comes standard with 2GB of memory which can store up to 1500 books. You can also add a memory card

You can sample books for free!

You can highlight text, bookmark pages, and you can even look up words with the built in dictionary

And this is pretty cool, you can even lend books to your friends for up to 14 days, and send the book to their reader, cell phone or computer!

The Barnes and Noble Nook is supposed to ship in November and sells for $259, and I’m sure they’ll be on schedule, given the impending Christmas

shopping season!

Check it out for yourself at the Barnes and Noble Nook website!

So I got myself a laptop cooling pad, to see if I could take the heat off. I was a little unsure about spending my hard earned money on yet another gadget, but after a week of solid use, I have to say, I can’t live without my little laptop cooling pad!

The initial reason I got my laptop cooling pad was to keep my laptop from heating me up in my local coffee shop. But in reality, there are SO many additional benefits to using a Laptop cooling pad. A lot of laptops have operating temperatures as high as 120 degrees, and my Sony VAIO is hotter than most, so you can see why my legs were on fire.

All that heat is also bad for sensitive electronic components of your laptop, causing instability and increased likelihood of device failure, as well as slowing your laptop down considerably. By using a laptop cooling pad to reduce the operating temperature of your laptop you will not only increase the speed of your laptop, but also increase the lifespan of your laptop. All this, along with much less sweating, makes me a happy webchicklet.

While I can’t say which cooling pad is the best, I went with the Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler, and have been VERY happy with it for the following reasons:

The nice aluminum top dissipates heat very well and is durable

The USB cable length is nice and short

The fans run VERY quietly at either high or low speeds

The 3 year warranty gives me some comfort that this is a durable unit

It was relatively inexpensive at $22 and a quick and easy purchase at Amazon.com

Another popular unit is the Belkin F5L001 Laptop Cooling Pad, which has a nice stylish looking design and is similarly priced. After reading some reviews, I decided I liked the Antec cooling pad better, as it was reported to be much quieter and more durable.

Whatever laptop cooling pad you decide to try, I’m sure your laptop will thank you!
