Backup Freaks Are Smart Geeks

Hi, my name is WebChicklet … and I’m a backup freak. Over the years, I’ve trashed more hard drives than I can count, and most of those involved lots of geeky tears because I didn’t have a backup. Eventually, after enough crashes, I finally learned my lesson, and I became a backup freak. Every now and then, I like to remind my friends how smart it is to be a backup freak, so here I am reminding you.

Backup every day.

Use automation so you don’t have to remember.

What do I do?

I backup all my data onto an external hard drive first, so that I can grab it and run if some natural disaster is about to strike, or if I need to bring lots of data with me on a trip. I use a 500 GB Western Digital My Book external hard drive for this (the one pictured below). But keeping your backup in your home isn’t the safest thing to do either, so I double my backup by using Mozy’s online unlimited home backup for just $4.95/month. It’s all automated, and after the initial backup (which takes a while), it only backs up changed files, so it’s super-quick. Oh, and they’re having a special this month so be sure to use this coupon code to get 10% off annual and bi-annual MozyHome Unlimited signups. The code is OCTOBER. Just type the code into the referral box at signup to get the discount. So now I’ve done my bit to save you from those geeky tears, and helped you become a backup freak too! :)

  1. SEO Blog Says:

    You can never backup enough!

I dont know how many times i’ve told clients that, only to amuse myself with my own ignorance and lose all my data due to stupidity :D
